Plus one on the welcome. My biggest stumbling block switching from Windows was
interacting, sometimes you can’t navigate a Finder folder because you’re not
interacting, sometimes a document starts reading from the start instead of
where you thought you were, turns out you weren’t interacting. It becomes
second nature, but takes a bit to get used to. One other thing is VO J, it does
a ton of useful things, but is different depending on the application. The
official tag for it is go to linked item, in Finder it’s usually the side bar,
in Pages it’s the formatter, that kind of thing.
There are also different ways to do the same thing, as noted in responses to
Russel’s query, you can open a message with return/enter, command O, or jump to
it with VO J. If you use VO J, you have to remember to VO J back to the mail
list, closing the message is actually closing the whole mail window because all
you did was jump to the viewer pane, things like that.

Additional note: I just noticed, while composing this email message, that
the VO cursor does, indeed, follow the keyboard focus, so the problem
only exists when reading an existing email message, and not when
composing a new message.
