I didn’t even know you could Command O on an Email to open it. That’s good
knowledge exchange. :) I always interact with the messages table and skim
through them, deleting whatever and VO J jumping to the content pane. I guess
your way you can just Command W to close the message and continue on from
there, so that’s useful to know.

the VO cursor does, indeed, follow the keyboard focus, so the problem only
exists when reading an existing email message, and not when composing a new
message.
