Hey guys, I am new to the list. My name is Michael. This is a very
interesting topic since it is, I am coming from windows myself, and learning
to use a Mac. Thanks for the info. This answers a lot of questions for me.
Just learning how to use everything. Hold onto your hats. I may be sending
other questions as well. Thanks for posting. Helps a lot

Hey Mark,
I use Command + O to open the email message. I tried your method of pressing
VO + J, and it seems to work better, but I noticed that when you press the
CTRL key to stop reading, the focus gets placed on the paragraph you were in
when the reading was stopped, but not necessarily on the last word spoken,
like it does with JAWS in Windows.
Thanks for the tip, I wouldn't have ever thought that might be the issue!
Take care,
Russell

How are you getting from the messages table to the message content area? I
use VO J to jump between them, and I wonder if you’re using another method,
which is telling your VO cursor to stay in the messages table, rather than
jumping to the content area? I know you can use Tab to move between
messages table and content area, which might not drag the VO cursor along?

Hi everyone,
I'm running macOS Monterey on my iMac 2017. When reading email messages in
the Mail app, the VO cursor does not follow the keyboard focus, even
though it's set to do that in the VO Utilities, Navigation settings. So,
what happens is, if I open an email message and press VO + A to begin
reading the email, and, then, I press the CTRL key to pause VO reading so
that I can more closely read the email, the VO cursor will still be at the
beginning of the email, even though I've read half of the email message.
So, the only way I can get to the point where VO left off reading is to
press the down arrow key until I get to that point, which, if the email
message is a long one, can be very tedious. I hope I'm explaining this in
a way that makes sense. What I'd like to happen is, when I press VO + A to
start reading an email message, and then I press the CTRL key to stop the
reading, I'd like the VO cursor to be at the point where I stop reading,
and not still at the beginning of the message.
Is there a setting I am missing?
Additional note: I just noticed, while composing this email message, that
the VO cursor does, indeed, follow the keyboard focus, so the problem only
exists when reading an existing email message, and not when composing a
new message.
Thanks for any suggestions,
Russell
