David, may I ask you why you say that... above... ?
Hi Steve!
I say this for several reasons... though only one of them is compelling.
1) more pixels - though this is not hugely significant unless you're
making HUGE prints. In 12x18 size, I don't think there would be a huge
difference.
2) larger sensor... lower magnification factor and a slightly larger
pixel size. Larger pixels inherently yield less noise.
3) The Leica will be the ONLY dSLR which does not have an anti-aliasing
filter in front of the sensor. Anti-aliasing filters reduce resolution
in any optical system, but are needed to prevent/reduce moire patterns
in repeating patterns of photographed objects.
This last one is critical, I believe, to Leica's actually delivering a
better picture, and thus staying in the game. Imacon (who are developing
and building the DM-R for Leica) are building in a cure for moire
patterns in software, which can be turned on - after the fact, as I
understand it, if they appear in any of the shots. (I could be wrong on
the "after the fact" bit.)
If it works, it will allow the back to deliver sharper pictures than any
other dSLR.
I also understand that problems with this software is the main reason
for the delay in delivery of the DM-R.
It is also why I am concerned about it needing future updates.
Best regards,
David.
Very compelling David...
I'm sold...where can I get one ?
Ohhhh.....errrrrhhhh ....hmmmmm....
1. it's all theory right now
2. very high cost
3. so far it's close to vaporwear...
4. it might be disappear-wear
5. it needs to be widely tested in real life...
6. a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush
It started out sounding exciting, then exorbitant,
then improbable, now a risk, and ultimately could
be downright foolish... given the way Leicas
fortunes are going...
