An additional thought...
For me, there is one other benefit with the LeiCanon.
As a hobby, I chase eclipses of the sun. The next 'biggie' (and last
'biggie' in my lifetime) is in China, July of 2009.
The ideal focal length for such work is 1250mm - a size often found in
small telescopes. Until now, I've been using a 1000mm Celestron C-90 for
the purpose. But, for the next one, I want something optically
superior. (Ted can attest that all the eclipse photos on my walls are a
bit fuzzy.)
I had planned on trying to buy a 560mm f6.8 head or additional lens for the
2009 eclipse, as the 400mm + 2x is still only 800mm.
But the 400mm/f6.8 w/2x converter - 800mm * 1.6 = 1280mm! Perfect, and no
additional lens to buy! More savings!
Cheers!
