If this is the only site it's been happening with then I'd say your symptoms are typical of a company server struggling with demand, try again at a quiteter time. If you've had issues elsewhere then perhaps it's something to do with your browser. When I get requests to look at PC's where web browsing has slowed down significantly I usually find they're full of unnessessary browser add-ons/multiple search engine tool bars etc. in IE goto Tools/Manage Add-ons and remove as many as you can without impacting on what you need.
