Sean,

If the permanent task pane disablement you're referring to is the one in the 
View tab of the Word Options menus, this doesn't seem to have anything to do 
with features such as the thesaurus that come up as task panes.  It says 
it's only about enabling or disabling a task pane that comes up each time 
Word is launched to display some sort of message.  This isn't the same 
thing.
