I hit space instead of enter a lot myself only because in some cases it's quicker than hitting enter. I.E. hitting the tab key and hitting space on the item I want since my thumb is practically on the space bar anyway where hitting enter, you would have to reach over a little with your pinky. Then again, I am lazy in a lot of ways too.

Hi Rick,I'm not generally afraid to experiment. I'm a longtime Jaws user. But to behonest, although I'm curious to see what sorts of situations might benefit from my using the space bar to enter forms mode, I've never felt I had aproblem related to using the Enter key for that in the first place, you see. So it just didn't occur to me that there was even a problem that required acreative solution. What was it that inspired you or Jerry to even botherwith this? And what have you determined from your experience is advantageousabout this substitution? That's a straight question. Not being sarcastic. Not forgetting that there are a million ways to skin a cat, do something inJaws or Windows, or whatever, please understand. Just asking. Hope that keeps the flamers down.----- Original Message ----- From: "Rick Harmon" <rharmon@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Saturday, September 20, 2008 5:03 PM Subject: Re: JAWS 10 - Auto forms mode From triaal and error sometimes. Seriously? That's interesting. The instruction has always been to press Enter, and I never inferred that to be suggesting or implying that this is like working with controls labeled buttons, where sometimes enter will do the job but other times it's the space bar. I thought Forms Mode was just an enter thing, end of story. Not so, apparently?Seriously----- Original Message ----- From: "G.W. I usually use the space bar to go into forms mode with older versions of Jaws. That cuts down on going where I don't want to.----- Original Message ----- From: Rose CombsTo: jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Saturday, September 20, 2008 1:42 PM Subject: RE: JAWS 10 - Auto forms mode If you do not like it turn it off. Personally it is something that isvery long overdue in my opinion. I like not having to press enter to fillin forms, it needs a bit more work, for example if one tabs to put in a password after a user name it sometimes turns off and getting it back againcan be a annoying but, for the most part this is a feature I like a lot--afeather that often in the past has made me switch to System Access when I know I am going to be filling in forms. If I want to fillout something, it is so easy to hit enter to get into forms mode, there is no chance of typing something into an edit field unintentionally, I always know whether I'm in forms mode or not, and if for some reason, I'm unsure, all I have to do is press the key combination for the pc cursor to find out. I don't like my computer or its programs to do my thinking for me, and automatically putting me in forms mode when I may not want to be there falls into that category IMO. However I find it annoying when sometimes it will automatically go in to auto forms mode when you first load up a site. For example EBay or other sites were there is a search box or username field, and the website is designed to put you straight to either ofthe boxes. JAWS then switches to forms mode as soon as the page has loaded(sometimes even whilst it's loading), and then you can't use your navigation quick keys to move around the page, without having to press down arrow first to get out of forms mode. I'd like to have it so that JAWS wont go in to auto forms mode in situations were the website automatically puts you in an edit field. Anybody else have any comments on this?
