the redhat preassessment is good.
It tests u in almost all areas of linux administration.
then it gives a report of what all u are strong in and in wat u aren't.(and
even the level to which u know each area).
Though it asks just 3 questions in each area, i personally feel that the way
he assesses is good and that the report he gives about you is absolutely
true.

Personally, I think both. And together it becomes a bit too much for a
'course.'
To prove that you know Linux you could a lot more than show a
certificate. Among other things 1) Projects, 2) Publications, 3) Work
experience, etc.
