Can you plz let me know that?
It depends on what you wish to do with it. I remember
using user-mode-linux on a Pentium III 550 MHz with
128 MB RAM running 5 user-mode-linux sessions and
an X Server + lean desktop running on the host.
The 5 uml sessions were setup with a virtual
network connection and one of them were running
apache web server accessible via other sessions
simultaneously via text-mode web browsers. Each
session would add an overhead of about 16 MB memory
(excluding any startup services/programs that you
might want to keep running in that session).
What you need in excess in disk-space to create
image file for each session. This image file
would be mounted via loopback and accessed as the
rootfs by a uml session. But with 40-80 GB hard
disks in vogue today, this shouldn't pose a
constraint.
To summarise, you can setup UML on a desktop class
machine for testing/learning purpose without much
issues.
