It was on the PC, where you'd have more memory and if you used GEOS you'd usually have pretty complex documents to boot, because GeoWrite provided affordable DTP when WinWord couldn't do anything of that nature. > Writing out every page in use every minute could hurt a > lot. I'm not talking about writing 128MB RAM to disk, but save the documents you are working on, which are by and large a lot smaller than that. > Oh, and btw, because of the paging issue, either the > whole OS would have to pause, or the VM would have to > become *VASTLY* more complex (i.e. pausing write requests > to pages until the previous version was written to disk). Why not ask some GEOS coders about that? comp.os.geos? > I don't know how many people would be willing to have > their machine "paused" 1/10 of the time. THe majority will have an image, a text doc or a spreadsheet open - hardly 128MB. > But some users will have more. I chose > an average. Weighed average. > Now. Especially those you'd want to reach with your new desktop OS. We aren't talking about those using BeOS right now - they are no longer the main target. > But, since this is an R2+ thing, this really belongs on > GE. ;-) Also true. It's just that at GE nobody makes or dares to make decisions, or if they are made, they are usually trashed by someone with a penchant for hitting "reply" too quickly. :) Helmar
