You could do something like this event. Heck you could even use a similar name.. "North County's Most Remote Even Cache" since it's going to be in South County.

Maybe you could send an email to the cache reviewer and ask if there's a time limit. If the purpose of the dinner is to get everyone together to sit around and talk about caching; or maybe even talk about the upcoming picnic and maybe make a plan to put a cache out for it, and say this event lasts for 2 hours or so, is that long event to warrant an event page. THEN if a hunt breaks out are you in the clear?

I recently saw an event page where the event was everyone making caches. One stage was painting; one stage was painting, one stage was "Stuffing."

Thats right. Like the slaga picnic or geo-woodstock, part of the days activities may include cache hunting but it cant be the sole reason for the main event.

Here are the guidelines from GC.com:

Event caches are gatherings that are open to all geocachers and
which are organized by geocachers. While a music concert, a garage
sale, an organized sporting event, a ham radio field day or a
town's fireworks display might be of interest to a large
percentage of geocachers, such events are not suitable for
submission as event caches because the organizers and the primary
attendees are not geocachers. In addition, an event cache should
not be set up for the sole purpose of drawing together cachers for
an organized hunt of another cache or caches. Such group hunts are
best organized using the forums or an email distribution list.

Meet & greets can be set up as events, (that's right you can
create an event for the sole purpose of meeting cachers for food!)
but a group cache outing doesn't count.
