I am not convinced any output should go to the console, at least not for a GUI application.
This is why on the liblouis list where I asked about sorting this out I stated it really is a responsibility for the application developer as it depends so much on the needs of the application.
BrailleBlaster having console and GUI modes makes this more complicated. However logging messages probably are really not suitable error messages, the log will not be localised (it would not help me as a developer to recieve a French log file). So my thought here being that console error meessages (for console mode) should be coming from the application when an exception is thrown or an error value is obtained.

Probably. The significant output which redirection of stderr removed was mostly from liblouis and liblouisutdml, the other stuff not sure exactly but my guess would be somewhere in BrailleBlaster. Finding all the points where output in BrailleBlaster is produced is probably the largest part of this task.I will start on thrying to deal with this. Where do we want output to go?Should LibLouisUTDML and LibLouis log data get placed in the BrailleBlaster log files?Michael Whapples On 15/07/2014 12:12, Keith Creasy wrote:Yes, I agree. Michael, can we fix this? It really is too verbose by default. -----Original Message----- From: brailleblaster-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:brailleblaster-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of John J. For that reason, I would like to find a way to pipe it for now. I have tried the command line: java -jar brailleblaster.jar translate %bPath%%inputFile% > brailleblst.log but this does nothing1 I imagine the two input and output parameters are making the piping irrelevant to the brailleblaster.jar call. Any ideas? That is all logging from LibLouisUTDML and is telling you what actions and styles are being applied. We really do need to turn down the default logging though because that's a bit much most of the time. I clear the screen after the brailleBlaster program has finished so that my batch menu appears clearly. However, the output above appears once the program is running and so I wonder if I can pipe it to a file, if it is important to retain it, or if I can suppress this output by a setting in brailleBlaster?
