Thanks, Dianne.

I also found that using real headphones (the type that go completely over the ear) helped quite a bit. With the walkman type, I was getting a lot of extraneous noise in through my hearing aids, plus quite a bit of discomfort.

Can someone direct me to how I move downloaded books into my bookshelf? Proir to using the DAISY reader, I simply downloaded books into a file on my hard drive. Also, is it permissionable to change the bookshare download file into a more readable name? In other words, how can I change the file name so it is just the book title?

Hello, Deborah,

I, too, have hearing difficulties with about a 70% loss on my left side in the extreme frequencies. I use my BrailleNote or VoiceNote to read Bookshare books and generaly have to lower the pich in order to be comfortable. I believe I am using the Elequence speech on my units which has worked out well for me. I personally haven't had the greatest luck with the DAISY formatted works because the BrailleNote software seems to lock up and does not move through the book as it should, something with which I am quite disappointed. Therefore, I am simply using BRF formatting.

Also, within the Kurzweil scanning software, tere is a disk which contains other voice choices which might work directly on your computer. Others will know more about that, I am sure.
.

Good luck with all of this.

Hi Deborah,
I can't help with your Daisy question, but I just wanted to say that there are many different speech synthesizers with various pitches and intonations. So if at first you have trouble hearing or understanding certain synthesizers well, maybe some of us on the list can help you check out different ones until you find one that you're comfortable with.
Hope this helps, and welcome to the list,
Kellie
