When a program is installed, it will always associate file types specific to that program. If another program that supports the same file type is installed later, the first program is still associated with that type. All it means is when you double click a file, it will load that program. In other words, you do not have to load the program first.


The most common action is 'open'. Other actions can be added to a file type. In the case of Web Braille, this was done in Windows 95/98/ME.

   In XP I dont recall making any changes.  It just works.  ;)

By the way, in case one is wondering how this works when there is more than one program that supports a certain file type, if you right click the file, then select the Open with option, you will have your answer.

Another by the way, there is no file type associated with Bookport Transfer.
