Hi all, Contact me (madeleinel@xxxxxxxxxxxx<mailto:madeleinel@xxxxxxxxxxxx>), not Carrie for renewals. Carrie has been doing less work with the volunteer books as she has so much to do! Additionally, please email me (again, not Carrie) if someone grabs your book and I can email them. Sometimes it helps to see an email from a staff member and I'm happy to serve as a go-between! I've been reading all of your concerns about the renewal link and saving those emails. I'll connect with engineering and pass along your comments. Hopefully we can figure out some sort of compromise. It may not happen soon, but I just wanted you all to know that we hear you! Thanks, Madeleine From: bksvol-discuss-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:bksvol-discuss-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Valerie Maples Sent: Tuesday, September 25, 2012 4:24 AM To: bksvol-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Re: renewals revisited I agree with everyone else. Even though we can contact Madeleine or Carrie for an early renewal, most of the time we don't know till circumstances arise, and they may not get the note in time, either. And, Ann, sometimes Carrie can put in a kind word to the new volunteer explaining the unwanted loss and get a sympathetic release; I was lucky once or twice way back with that... Have a great day, all! I lost two books that I had put a lot of time into because they had some issues because I was out of town when they were due to renew. Absolutely nothing I could do about it though. I know that Evan had mentioned that he thought the renew link should be up on the checkout page all the time. He didn't explain why, but I now understand why. I have been working on Joanna Gregory's The Tarnished Chalice for the past six weeks. I'm in the middle, about halfway along. Anyway, my book came up for renewal and I got the notice on Friday afternoon. Unfortunately, I had already left for the weekend. I was attending my cousin's wedding. I arrived home late yesterday afternoon and proceeded to catch up on things in the house, never thinking about my book till I began wading through the email. I found the bookshare notice of renewal that was sent to me on Friday. Needless to say, my book was long gone when I went to look for it this morning. I have written to the proofer who has snapped it up, no fault of hers at all, and have politely asked her if she might consider releasing it for me. I have explain my situation, and said that if she's a new proofer and needs a proof to do, she may keep the book, but if not might she consider releasing it? I haven't heard back. Bottom line, folks, I couldn't do a blessed thing about renewing my book this weekend. I wasn't here. Had the renewal link been on the page permanently, I could have renewed the blessed thing on Thursday before I left! <sigh> Six weeks of work gone poof! Oh, well, es la vida. If my contact wants the book, so be it, but I was halfway through. Is there anything we can do about this? Could the renewal link be placed on books in one's queue permanently? Ah, well, it was a truly beautiful wedding and I wouldn't have missed it for worlds. Take care all, thanks for letting me vent. Ann P.
