Actually Cindy, that was my thought too. For example A Pocketful of history: Four Hundred Years of America One Quarter at a Time. That is definitely the subtitle, not the series, smile. Same withCan You Trust a Tomato in January?: The history behind groceries and Other Secrets of the grocery Store Revealed at Last
That is why I do what I do. For a book with a sub title. For example Chained: Youth with Chronic Illness (Youth With Special Needs)in this case they really don't have a number as they can be read in any order.
But that is how I would indicate a series unless demanded to do otherwise, smile. And of course since I got B's and C's in English, well, smile I will take your comment about punctuation to heart smile.

There's a prob;em with that. A colon after a title indicates a subtitle. The series title should be in parentheses after the title. As for other punctuation, simply from a grammatical point of view, there usually is a comma after the series before the number of the place in the series, but I suppose it isn't necssary.I'm reading these because I often find series titles *and* subtitles when I'm dong my books-added list, and I add them. I'll try to do what Allison does, but at the moment I'm bit confused--some of you want the number sign and some don't. Usually just copy what's on Amazon and B&N and paste it next to the book title before the author's name. I guess I won't worry about the forms all being the same. Variety is the spice of life, isn't it? smileA book added to the collection yesterday is part of two series, apparently; Trickster (children's lit) is number 3 in both the Wild at Heart series and the Volunteer series, so I put both.CindyWISH LIST (CALLED REQUESTED ADDITIONS TO THE BOOKSHARE COLLECTION)IS AVAILABLE AThttp://www.friendsofbookshare.org/wish_list/wish_list.htm www.lljfm.net/bookshare/home.htm A LIST OF BOOKS CURRENTLY BEING SCANNED IS AVAILABLE AT http://www.friendsofbookshare.org/ www.lljfm.net/bookshare/home.htm --- On Sat, 11/8/08, EVAN REESE <mentat3@xxxxxxxxxxx> wrote:From: EVAN REESE <mentat3@xxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Re: Requesting Member Feedback: Series Titles To: bksvol-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Date: Saturday, November 8, 2008, 12:57 PM Yeah, that's the way NLS does it. They put a colon after the book title and no parentheses around the series title, so you can distinguish between the two that way.
