We counted 56 species, here at the house, this weekend.  We were distracted by 
important-but-less-interesting obligations that reduced our birding time on 
Friday and yesterday, then we were completely fogged in early this morning.  
The early-morning cacophony that notified us of who was here, late in the 
spring through early summer, is almost completely gone now, so the fog held our 
numbers down, today.  We’re starting to miss the tree-top species like Tanagers 
and Orioles in these lists, now that they aren’t so freely telling us where 
they are.
We did have a few surprises, including good looks at a Harrier, over the 
southeast fields, and a Kingfisher fly-by, both yesterday morning.  We also 
continue to see a few Purple Martins.
We measured another 3-plus inches of rain this week, which has apparently 
extended the life of the distant field puddles.  We can’t see the water, from 
here, but know it’s there because of the flocks of shorebirds zooming back and 
forth.
