We counted 40 species this weekend. I glimpsed a few distant swallows that
I was unable to identify, which means that this was the first weekend since
early spring, that we didn't count a Barn Swallow. Another really odd miss
was a Tufted Titmouse. I've been expecting to miss the Martins, but I saw
two juveniles this morning that stayed around for a while. We saw no
warblers, but we continue to see Blue-gray Gnatcatchers (two in the same
bush this morning). There were Pewees here all weekend, along with at least
two Empidonax flycatcher individuals (that I did not include in the count).
Highlights included four A. Kestrels perched together, at the top of a
nearby dead tree, this morning and a lovely male N. Harriers that we spotted
several times over nearby fields, through the day, today.
