Debby and I kept eBird lists while we were out and about yesterday, which is 
not normal for us on a weekend.  So, it took more work than usual to tease the 
numbers for our home list from among the others.  We ended with a pretty bland 
list of 40, here, for the weekend. 
There was really nothing remarkable to report, other than a flyover, this 
morning, by at least 600 Common Grackles.  They came in several roping flocks, 
over a period of about fifteen minutes.  There was a smattering of Redwings, 
Cowbirds and even a few Rusties mixed in, but most were Grackles.  
The only bit of excitement came with the glimpse of the tops of two fuzzy white 
heads, in the Great Horned Owl nest cavity, this morning. I think they should 
be 2+ weeks old, by now, and hopefully they’ll give us better looks soon.
I added a link to Friday’s list because it includes a handful of Debby’s photos 
of a what we finally called a Cooper’s Hawk.  It was a juvenile and noticeably 
smaller than the other very-tolerant one that’s has been hanging around our 
feeders, recently.  That one is very big and ignores the Finches and 
Goldfinches.  This one caught our attention because it was scrambling around on 
top of (and under) an abelia shrub, trying to get to the finches that had taken 
cover there.  We’d be delighted if someone would tell us that it’s a 
Sharp-shinned, but we went with male Cooper’s.
