I just sifted through our past February weekend lists and I believe that
this count of 41 breaks our old February count record by 6 species.  We
counted 6 Sparrows, 5 Woodpeckers, 2 Accipiters and picked up a number of
recent scarcities, including a GBH and Collared Dove.  I spotted the
Cooper's Hawk today because of the hissing sound made by the wings of a
flock of Starlings (directly overhead) when they abruptly veered to avoid
it.  I looked up in time to see the hawk briefly chase a small split-off
flock before giving up and gliding away.

It was a great birding weekend!
