Sikosis mentioned the problem, but I was not sure why it was happening. For this specific purpose, I think you could just use the main account to FTP the files to the server (instead of using a separate account).
I've been building dev haiku raw and vmware images daily and they will eventually be available at http://www.haiku-files.org/dev
