Which would be actually useful if they provided each camera with a set of
measured spectral sensitivity curves, instead of keeping it to themselves.
Of course ideally each lens should come with spectral transmission
curves too.
In these digital days, it should be possible to store this info
in a standard form in each device so that they can be downloaded
and used by the end use to optimize their color reproduction exactly
how that wish.

I suggested this many years ago to the Digital Photography Workgroup of the
ICC.
I also discussed the idea with people from the japanese camera community.
The problem was as a gentleman at Fuji put it that internal voices were
split between publishing the data or not.
Surprise, at all manufacturers NOT not won out.
Note that it's possible that now that Sony makes most sensors this
decision may suddenly get taken for sales purposes :)
Also Knoll of Adobe to whom I spoke at the time was extremely unhappy
with the idea of ICC camera profiles.
My feeling is that the incumbent software makers view the opacity of color
conversion factors as a strong barrier of entry to new competition.
As a result of these historical attitudes from the main players, we're
stuck with what we have. Enjoy.
