Yepp, they both work well. However I do not know how well that'll yield
results in the high fidelity arena of digital photography, as I'm dealing
here with cameras in the better webcam range, and cameras for industrial
processes.

You can find chart definitions that I've created for Argyll here on the
Oyranos ColourWiki:

For good quality Graeme's tip is quite important: Use the debugging options on
the profile command and evaluate the output image with the grid alignment.
You may be easily off by a row/column, or image distortion (trapezoid,
sheared or pin cushion distortion) can be a bitch. Linear scaling along the
major axes of the diagram an rotation should be OK. And even if the grid
fits, pincushion & co may just let it "attract" wrong pixels to a certain
amount for patches.

Not mentioned so far are effects as vignetting.

But whatever you do, if you've got an open eye and evaluate the process, it
may be very well worth the effort for more deterministic colour processing.
