Well, that means there is a lack of regression tests in the library.

But I understand your concerns, specially regarding access to physical
device. My point is more generic (but it
works for other kind of devices and libraries, like digital cameras or
scanners).

OTOH, sharing the changes and getting them merged faster, with
versions releases (and beta versions) can help detect those
regressions.
