This is certainly the case. On this basis it comes as a surprise when ringing them for technical help that one of the first things that they ask you to do is remove the front plate of their socket, and check their wiring! I also was told that BT charge anyway for the repairs and they're not that cheap. I was just going to get an engineer to put a new box on but I wondered if they could just do this considering that the box where the line meets the house isn't the new type. There are two sockets on the filter, I'm sure one is for a router or modem but I have tried a separate filter for the broadband anyway to be sure. There are rare ocasions when the phone crackles without the broadband connected but the worst of it seems to be triggered by the broadband being connected.
