Aha laptop is gitted from sourceforge and the pi is gitted from git

This is rather odd :(
If you're grabbing 'master' they should both be the same. I keep them in sync.
Just checked. Both offer 1.3.9 as the latest release, and master as was
committed 8 hours ago.
Recent versions don't offer Jack/Alsa choice at compile time, because it is
available in 'Settings' these days. This is much more convenient.
