When I was an Associate real estate broker we were required to take a course to
become part of the Portland Realtor’s. Note. Folks who sell real estate are not
Realtors until they are inducted after taking the class to become so.
I was absolutely astonished when I took the class. Everything I heard in
that class was what my Parents and Grandparents had taught me as a kid growing
up.
If there is a need to have a specialized class to do the job of Parents when
it comes to adults, we’re in trouble.

I agree with your Philosophy.
The White Lines that are painted on such high speed highways are NOT painted
for decorations - They are applied for an orderly and safe operation of
Traffic, both commercial and travelers.
But, as you note, not everyone follows or adheres to those " protocols. " As I
saw Saturday.
I still remember entering the Congress Street On Ramp of I - 295 in my CMPCo
Service truck several years ago on a busy afternoon, where there is a YIELD
Sign for Merging traffic. A SHAW's Supermarket Tractor Trailer, slower down,
Yielding for me. I gave him a Wave and Smile. I later sent a Letter on CMPCo
stationery to the Shaw's Manager of the Distribution Center to ask him to
present my Letter to his Driver in Thanks for his Courtesy on That afternoon. I
was able to send the Letter because I personally knew and still know the
Manager as we are both members of the Portland Camera Club. He has since
retired from Shaw's. He wrote back that he rarely received such Positive
Letters and would present my Letter to his Driver !

I do think that the auto and oil industry lobbied (and brainwashed) this
country to make it auto-centric and that driving is a right. Compared to other
countries, the penalties for traffic violations are very low. It is very hard
to lose a driver's license in the U.S. And that there is no re-test over time
or at a certain age is a problem.

The basis for not imposing tougher laws, in my opinion, stems from this
