I agree with your Philosophy.
The White Lines that are painted on such high speed highways are NOT
painted for decorations - They are applied for an orderly and safe
operation of Traffic, both commercial and travelers.

CMPCo Service truck several years ago on a busy afternoon, where there is a
YIELD Sign for Merging traffic. A SHAW's Supermarket Tractor Trailer,

Letter on CMPCo stationery to the Shaw's Manager of the Distribution Center
to ask him to present my Letter to his Driver in Thanks for his Courtesy on
That afternoon. I was able to send the Letter because I personally knew and
still know the Manager as we are both members of the Portland Camera Club.
He has since retired from Shaw's. He wrote back that he rarely received
such Positive Letters and would present my Letter to his Driver !

I do think that the auto and oil industry lobbied (and brainwashed) this
country to make it auto-centric and that driving is a right. Compared to
other countries, the penalties for traffic violations are very low. It is
very hard to lose a driver's license in the U.S. And that there is no
re-test over time or at a certain age is a problem.
