And the funny thing is that the difference is not in the extreme highs and lows. Well, it could be, but it's more in the mid-range definition.

So it's best to listen Carefully to a voice, A guitar, a piano, Or even a base, than to a hi hat or a kik.

And well recorded acoustic sounds are preferable of course. That's where my little test was failing, because it only included sounds that Had already been sampled, second-hand sounds if you like.

that's interesting, but still anecdotal. anyway, I agree it sounds better as well - I'm not arguing that point. (grin)

Oh no, it's absolutely true DAW's sound different, and someone with a

loud New York City subways and corporate data centers where fans blow
constantly and never get shut off is telling you this. To me, the
difference is not striking, but it's noticeable enough between Sonar
and Samplitude, so if it's noticeable to me, think what it is to
someone whose ears work properly!

I'm of the opinion that any daw Will get the work done, as long as it's programmed properly, and any differences are probably down to user error, etc. rather than a daw actually sounding different. But like I said, there is a lot of argument about this.
