You need to get the cursor into the edit box and type the co-ordinates e.g. 
a1:a7,c1:c7 Press enter and the two sets of co-ordinates should then be 
highlighted.

  in excel i want to select a range of cells, say from a2 to a7 and i also want 
to select the range c5 to c10 , in other words without doing anything to the b 
column.
