Hi all,
I think the best way to see whether this is going to work is to get on with it.
So I’ve put a demo into the Guide Tracks (etc) folder. I think it may be
important to prefix the name of the track with the name of its writer.
I recorded this track with Dave Reay on an old Tascan four-track in the
nineties. I suppose I’d say the track is nineties indie pop. Think Lloyd Cole
and the Commotions/There She Goes (the La’s)/XTC with a bit of male version of
Bangles into the mix.
There’s a four beat intro on this recording. The first three beats should be
treated as count in, so the finished song will start with one drum beat and
then straight to the vocals. Take a listen and give me some idea of what
instrument to use for the solo. If I can get a track with guitar, drums and
base, I can finish it off with vocals and other instrumentation from my PSRS950.
So, we have nine people who are keen to take part in the project. What genres
do we cover, and who can add what instruments to any tracks we might work
together on? I can do keyboards and vocals, and perhaps piano accordion and
acoustic upright piano. I think my strengths are 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s
pop and soul – not so hot on hip-hop and dance. Also Traditional country, new
country, rock (but not so much prog rock), blues and I have fun with song
parodies from time to time. Does anyone else want to set out their stall, who
hasn’t already done so?
Best,
Clive

Hi Peter,
Really looking forward to this!
If anyone wants help with how to record or different softwares I use Reaper and
Logic a lot as well as audacity a bit so would be happy to lend a hand/make
little tutorials if there's anything specific people need.
Thanks,
Ethan

Hi All,
Many thanks for the encouraging response to the idea of how we might
record remotely.
I've just invited those who expressed an interest, nine so far, to share
a DropBox folder.
Whenever you have a song or piece of music that you'd like to record,
please add a demo or guide track to the folder. It should have a
count-in, and if it's the sort of piece where a click-track is suitable
or helpful, then that could also be good, but absolutely not essential
and very much depending on the type of music.
Please then post to the group to say anything you like about how it
could be arranged, and then others can record parts, and we can take it
from there.
If you haven't yet been added but would like to be, then please post to
the list.
Lastly, nothing is set in stone and if you have other ideas about how to
work this, then please feel free.
All best,
Peter
