Hi Armando and all, Sorry I have not replied sooner but I had no responses from anyone and then bingo they all came in just now, all in one go! Yes I did try to restore a RegCleaner (JV16 Powertools) backup but it didnt work. Mind you, I tried the last backup it did, however I dont really know how long I have had the problem because I dont need to click on properties very often. I was installing Britannica 2004 and I was following the specific instructions to see if I had enough room. That was when I discovered the error message. I do have a bit of further information though. Now, when I right click and chose properties on, say, My Computer, it works properly. On other things, it doesnt work properly, will bring up the error message and then work as normal. So, I dont quite know why it now does that because when I first noticed the problem, it occurred on everything and, of course, the first place I noticed it was on "My Computer". So, whether the RegCleaner backup I used, or whether even the scannow, did something, I dont know. Thanks for everyone's input. And yes, I do also use the Microsoft RegClean. It seems to work okay, hasnt caused any problems that I know of and seems a pretty innocuous little programme (famous last words .... !!). And yes Armando, I use XP Home. Sandy stated that she had used it on her XP installation previously without trouble. This time, apparently, something may have gone awry and when she right clicks on anything & chooses "properties" she gets the "RegOpenKeyEx:The handle is Invalid " message. Then she clicks OK and can continue with the Properties dialog box. A previous restore point and a scannow did not work in solving this. By default jv16 RegCleaner backs up what changes it makes but I haven't been able to get Sandy to confirm if she can/has tried this option to resolve this glitch she has encountered. Got any ideas that she could try before I recommend she tries a "Repair Installation"? http://www.dougknox.com/xp/xp_tips.html armando On Wed, 10 Dec 2003 21:57:00 EST, Cuffy10@xxxxxxx wrote: In a message dated 12/10/03 6:11:20 PM Pacific Standard Time, ChasM49@xxxxxxx writes: better not be using that one on xp..... as it doestn work... Microsoft RegClean 4.1a Utility program was developed by Microsoft for Win95, Win98, ME, to clean and repair Windows Registry errors. Since introducing Windows XP the free Regclean download program is no longer supported by Microsoft. It is NOT even available for download from Microsoft's website anymore. However, RegClean 4.1 will also run on all Windows XP 2000 Operating Systems. We seem to have some contradicory information. Have you run and had problems with Regclean 4.1a on the XP OS? Seems a little strange? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Thus the metric system did not really catch on in the States, unless you count the increasing popularity of the nine-millimeter bullet.
