Well VM presents either an LSI logic driver or a Buslogic driver fro the disk. For the Network card its either an AMDPCInet driver or a specific VMware driver. The hardware presented is not as big a deal as the performance you get from within the virtual layer. I have been outlining a whitepaper comparing the two (apples to apples) but have been looking for a vendor to sponsor it so I can compare on more than just the G1 hardware in my basement. Anyway, hit me offline if you need more info and check out our free chapter on VMware ESX at brianmadden.com (also some whitepapers at VMguru.com) Ron Oglesby Director of Technical Architecture RapidApp, Chicago Office: 312 372 7188 Mobile: 815 325 7618 email: roglesby@xxxxxxxxxxxx -----Original Message----- From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Adam.Baum@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Monday, November 08, 2004 3:50 PM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] VMware vs VS2005 Attn VMware afficionados, What hardware does VM ESX present to a Windows OS? I see that the motherboard is an Intel 440BX. What NIC does it show up as? What about SCSI? Microsoft shows up an an Intel NIC and Adaptec SCSI. My goal is to build a matrix comparing the two in how the hardware is represented to the guest OS.
