[THIN] Re: Thin Print technologies

There is one difference though- While ScrewDrivers and ThinPrint both can
redirect a compressed print stream to the local PC driver/spooler, ThinPrint
also has the option to re-direct the print job to a dedicated machine on the
remote LAN. This is considered a Gateway print server and has a number of
advantages for certain types of environments. One example is when the print
driver is simply not compatible with Metaframe (i.e. certain large scale
multi-function office systems)and it needs to be completely re-directed.

Most of them handle printing that way. Thin print is pretty slick as is
screwdrivers et al. I tend to lean towards thin print though because of the
success I have had with the product.

Anyway for more detailed info on printing (deeper than the first book) check
out the free chapter on Printing Brian and I are giving away.

Also we will be giving away hard copies of this stuff at the Thin Print
booths at Iforum.

Simplify Printing from Tricerat (www.tricerat.com) handles printing in the
way you describe. We have been using it here for about 6 months and it has
performed well for us. It can also do bandwidth limiting it you need it.
