That is the main problem with Tricerat. The support Win32 only and most ThinClients now are either Linux or CE, both unsupported platforms. As a reseller for both Tricerat and ThinPrint I think both have their own PROs and CONs. But if your environment is not pure Win32, Tricerat is not the way to go for sure. This is a great set of updates in the product. The situation that we were discussing was still a bit different in that a gateway of some sort is necessary if the client device is unable to process a local print driver or the Simplify software, i.e. many types of thin clients devices or non-windows computers. In regard to the statement below, Steve is describing two different versions of the product. The "universal" version was one way of describing our original release of the ScrewDrivers product. That version is now considered legacy code. Now, the latest version of the Simplify Printing v2(formerly called ScrewDrivers Fxp) is the product that uses a query functionality to pull information from the local-side drivers on the win32 client and emulate those characteristics into the user's/admin's session as available printers. Because of this functionality, drivers are not required on the server-side. As a point of reference, Simplify Printing does not care about redirection(LPT1, USB, network, etc.). As long as there is a client machine to place out client component onto, you will be able to print fine without worrying where the job has to be sent physically. We have many customers printing to larger copier and multi-function devices. What print driver? With Simplify Printing (Screwdrivers), none of the MF servers need ANY print drivers .. No, not one ... to be able to print via redirection back to the client. That's the whole point. While redirecting to a gateway server can be an advantage in some environments, the reason you give doesn't really illustrate what those are. ******************************************************** This Week's Sponsor - Emergent Online Essential Thin Client Utilities.
