Where did you find them at that price? I paid $299 for a 1200LE. -----Original Message----- From: Jeff Malczewski [mailto:jmalczewski@xxxxxxxx] Sent: Friday, June 25, 2004 11:56 AM To: 'thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx' Subject: [THIN] Re: Thin Client Replacement How could this be cheaper? I got the 3200LE's for like $250USD ea... -----Original Message----- From: Claudio Rodrigues [mailto:crodrigues@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Friday, June 25, 2004 11:52 AM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: Thin Client Replacement What I mean is instead of buying Thin Clients you can get a very small PC using a VIA or Geode processor (that has no fans at all) and use a DoM instead of a Hard Disk. This will give you exactly the same as a Thin Client but at a lower cost and without any firmware issues. You can have this very small, as small as any normal Thin Client. -----Original Message----- From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Jeff Malczewski Sent: June 25, 2004 11:41 AM To: 'thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx' Subject: [THIN] Re: Thin Client Replacement I agree that doing this on a PC isn't very practical, just removing the power supply fan would significantly shorten the life-span of a PC. The WinTerms have external power supplies, so they are fed DC power right from the power jack on them. And, they're WAY small. Like I said in my other post, the WinTerms we use have optional mounting brackets (I think they were like $8 ea) to mount them directly to the back of a monitor. Cuts down on them being stolen, too.. Because you know some Luser is going to think it's just a new-fangled super-small computer and want to put it in his pocket and take it home.. When he realizes it doesn't do anything, do you REALLY think he's going to bring it back?? -----Original Message----- From: Braebaum, Neil [mailto:Neil.Braebaum@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Friday, June 25, 2004 11:27 AM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: Thin Client Replacement Presumably, you'd have to remove the hard-drive and use something solid-state. Plus remove any fans - which may not be possible with certain CPUs or other circuitry (eg video cards). (you did say "no moving parts on them at all") Neil > -----Original Message----- > From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx > [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Claudio Rodrigues > Sent: 25 June 2004 16:05 > To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx > Subject: [THIN] Re: Thin Client Replacement > > What you can also do on PCs, getting no moving parts on them > at all.
