What you can also do on PCs, getting no moving parts on them at all. With the current prices on PCs, we are simply using PC hardware and turning them into Thin Clients with no moving parts at all. This will probably cost you 30-40% less than a Thin Client. And it is upgradeable, managed from a central location etc. -----Original Message----- From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Jeff Malczewski Sent: June 25, 2004 10:27 AM To: 'thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx' Subject: [THIN] Re: Thin Client Replacement We still haven't changed most of our PCs over to thin clients yet.. I just removed all the M$ networking, and left them with a plain old TCP/IP stack, and then modified system.ini so that mstsc.exe is the shell instead of explorer.exe.. Now, the machines boot and launch the RDP client immediately.. Just like a thin client, without the expense of replacing something we already own.. As the PCs break down, they are replaced with WinTerms. Our other facility was built ground-up with WinTerms. They are currently just over 2 years old, and we have no current plans for replacement, other than broken ones. They work much longer than PCs do because there's no moving parts (not even a fan!). -----Original Message----- From: Nick Smith [mailto:nick@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Friday, June 25, 2004 10:08 AM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Thin Client Replacement Do you guys have a hardware Thin Client replacement strategy? Say, for PCs, every 3 years? Or do the Thin Clients just go on working more or less forever?
