As long as they send something to @yourdomain.com, your mail server should allow it. -----Original Message----- From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Tuesday, September 30, 2003 3:34 PM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: OT:Exchange not getting certain email Ryan, thanks for the info. I will have them try again. The last time they tried the telnet, it was their ISP that tried it and got connected. They did not try to send any mail from it. I am not sure if they will be able to send because I did shut down most of the relay functionality Vince -----Original Message----- From: Ryan Lambert [mailto:rlambert@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Tuesday, September 30, 2003 1:09 PM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: OT:Exchange not getting certain email Hopefully my client/the list didn't tear that formatting up. You didn't specify earlier whether it was workstation or from server. If so, have them telnet to your mail server on port 25 and issue the SMTP commands to send an e-mail to you. Servers will sometimes come back with a message different than what they display on their bounce message. To test, have your vendor issue the helo, mail from:, rcpt to:, and data/quit commands as follows: (From their SMTP server console, if possible) Z:\>telnet $YOUR_EXCHANGEBOX 25 220 $YOUR_EXCHANGEBOX Microsoft ESMTP MAIL Service, Version: $VERSION ready at Tue, 30 Sep 2003 12:57:22 -0400 helo test 250 $YOUR_EXCHANGEBOX Hello [their.ip.addr.here] mail from: their@xxxxxxxxxxxxx 250 2.1.0 their@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx OK rcpt to: your@xxxxxxxxxxxxx 250 2.1.5 your@xxxxxxxxxxxxx data 354 Start mail input; end with <CRLF>.<CRLF> Message data here. It's most likely related to your MX record, and not the DNS A host record. I would do a simple NSLOOKUP using some online DNS lookup utility to query for all MX records in your zone. Weird part is that they don't have any problem sending email to other people and I don't have problem receiving email from other senders (as far as I know). My exchange 2K server seems to be running fine but one of our vendor can not get through. Everytime they send an email to us, they get "Recipient's server exceeded time for connection". It seems to be blocking their domain name but I can't find the block anywhere in my system including firewall. Any idea?
