also check to see what THEIR dns lookup says about you.. we've had it before where someones had an old old old old record on their isp, causing things to fail. although i guess seeing as it actually connects to you but times out, thats probably not the cause.. youre not doing some sort of domain validation on received mail are you? It's most likely related to your MX record, and not the DNS A host record. I would do a simple NSLOOKUP using some online DNS lookup utility to query for all MX records in your zone.
