What you wrote finally makes sense to me <feeling rather dense at the moment>, but I'm just a little puzzled. We have yet to experience this issue before, and while you would probably be at a loss to identify what may have changed in 'our' environment - it makes me wonder if Citrix Winframe and Metaframe clients don't work significantly differently that Windows Terminal Services and clients connecting via TSAC. I will contact the user and try your suggestion - thank you for your help. -----Original Message----- From: Marco Cortigiani [mailto:tuscan@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Thursday, May 08, 2003 7:47 PM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: ME Client and local printers in WTS Content-type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii; format=flowed Content-transfer-encoding: 7BIT Keith, Here is how the mapping process works: When a client connect to a Citrix server the ICA client is sending the information related to the printer to the Citrix server. The most important information is the printer driver name. Metaframe server will check if that driver is already installed on the server. If the driver is not installed will try to install on the server. Otherwise the printer is not going to be created, and the user will not be able to print. To control this process, if you are still using metaframe 1.8 you can create use a text file that is called wtsuprn.inf . I just download a copy of this file from the Citrix site for you. The structure of the file is pretty simple, on the left column you must type the name of the printer driver, as specified on the user desktop, and on the right you must specify the name of the driver that you want to map for this printer. Chances are that the server doesn't know about this printer, this is one of the most common printing problem. What you need to do is get on the phone with this user, and have her send you the exact name of the printer driver, something like HP LaserJet 6 Si. The best thing to do is to have her copy the printer description and paste it on an e-mail, like I have done with the second attachement. Spelling and letter case has to be correct, otherwise you will not see the printer. If you are using Metaframe Xp, the process is similar but you don't have to edit the file, you need to map a printer using the CMC.
