If your users must use an IM client I like Trillian. It supports AIM, MSN, IRC, YAHOO, ICQ. I use it mainly for AIM and encrypt all my chat sessions with it. At my conpany we often rely on IM to get in touch with folks in the field. ANother tool many of us "geeks" use is Skype from www.skype.com. It's free vocie over IP. It works great. ----- Original Message ----- From: Roger Riggins To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Thursday, August 19, 2004 12:08 AM Subject: [THIN] Re: Instant Messenger Here are some reasons we don't want them to: a.. They chat in clear text b.. It's difficult to monitor what information they are passing via the messenger (maybe your company's fiscal info) c.. Viruses can be transferred which will rely on av at the desktop, whereas they may normally come through your smtp gateways and be cleaned long before they reach the end user d.. They're usually not used in a productive manner e.. It's just another app we'd have to support, and nobody would be happy if we said they could only use one kind anyway Good luck, R -----Original Message----- From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Robinson, Nick Sent: Wednesday, August 18, 2004 4:19 PM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Instant Messenger I have a growing number of people in my organization that are using Yahoo Instant Messenger.
