Great post...thanks a lot. Our implementation may be easier than for some others since we do not publish a desktop but just seamless applications through the WI, but just the same, I will surely have a test farm before I begin to deploy things. As well as what has been mentioned and depending on your Farm components / design. Always test first before introducing to your live Farm. Have you got a test farm to test with ? The majority of the CMC functions have moved to the AMC and this can be quite confusing if you havent used it before. Some functions still remain in the PS 4.5 CMC - Installation Manager Package deployment, Load Evaluators, Printer settings,RM Summary Database settings, Isolation Environments , Some Zone settings remain as well. If you use Resource Manager update your RM server before your application servers. Also be aware of the following with PS 4.5 RM http://support.citrix.com/article/CTX113003&printable=true Keep the PS 4.5 servers in seperate Zones from the PS 4 servers. Dedicate ZDCs if you can ( depends on farm size / design etc etc) Test your Applications first with PS 4.5 Rollup 1. Rollup 1 breaks some applications and you may get issues with applications that cover the taskbar. Post Rollup 1 patches fix these issues. The Citrix foums have lots of interesting posts about broken applications. Review the Post Rollup 1 hotfixes. Installation Manager is broken with PS 4.5 . Rollup 1 also needs a private hotfix if your pushing MSI files with transforms and / or you have an IM account with a large number of characters or the password has non std characters (this didnt get fixed properly in rollup 1). Read the Rollup 1 read me as well. Applications published in the PS 4.5 Access Management Console cannot be modified by the PS 4 CMC. You also cant drag a published app created in the PS 4.5 AMC to a server in the PS 4 CMC. PS 4.5 Policies have new features that arent visible in the PS 4 CMC. Check out the Speedscreen options (lossy compression). Make sure you check the PS 4.5 Load evaluators in the PS 4.5 CMC. These have Load Throttling enabled and this isnt visible in the PS 4 CMC. The default load throttling settings can cause some interesting results at logon time. If your using 64 bit 2003 + PS 4.5 the hotfixes release dates can lag a bit behind the 32 bit versions. When you install CPS 4.5 on a server and join it to the CPS 4.0 farm does it upgrade the CPS 4.0 database in any way? 2. Rather than having a big upgrade weekend, I was considering building a 4.5 image, and just rolling it out to our servers a few at a time, until all are converted. At what point should the ZDC be upgraded, or does this even matter? 3. Are there any other "gotchas" we should be aware of when planning the deployment? (BTW - our farm is running on Server 2003 R2 / fully patched up) Thanks, Matt McComas Information Technology Westdale Asset Management, Ltd.
