-Rarities found this week-
A BROWN BOOBY was found at an RV park just west of Wimberly, Hays, on 5/2.
The bird was seen walking on the ground and allowed close approach. While
it didn't appear to be injured, it seemed to be deteriorating quickly. The
bird was captured and taken to a rehabilitation center in Austin where it
died on 5/3. This is a first county record for Hays and interestingly, the
location where the bird was found is between Canyon Lake and Lake Travis,
where the other central Texas records come from.
Eleven PIPING PLOVERS were found at Dana Peak Park (Stillhouse Hollow
Lake), Bell, on 5/5.
Two SNOWY PLOVERS were photographed in the drying basins at Hornsby Bend,
Travis, on 4/30.
A WHIMBREL was photographed, also at Dana Peak Park (Stillhouse Hollow
Lake), Bell, on 5/5.
A SANDERLING was also photographed Dana Peak Park (Stillhouse Hollow Lake),
Bell, on 5/5.
A BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO was heard calling on private property off FM 150 in
Hays County, 5/2.
A GREAT KISKADEE was found at Woodlands Park & River Place Trail in west
Austin, Travis, on 5/1. The bird was seen briefly near the bridge crossing
near Lake Austin and flew northwards.
A HUTTON'S VIREO was found at St. Edward's Park in NW Austin, Travis, on
5/5. The bird was seen in the willows along the creek trail, just west of
the dam.
A WOOD THRUSH was photographed at a private residence in NW Austin, Travis,
on 4/23.
A male GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER was photographed at Mills Pond in NW
Austin, Travis, on 4/29. Another bird was found at Roy Guerrero Park in
Central Austin, Travis, on 5/3.
A SWAINSON'S WARBLER was photographed at Booty's Road Park just below Lake
Georgetown along the San Gabriel River, Williamson, on 4/19 and continues
through 5/5.
A male LAZULI BUNTING was photographed at a private feeder in Hays County,
near FM 1826 and Nutty Brown Rd on 4/23.
A male BOBOLINK was photographed along Platt Lane just North of Hornsby Bend*,
*Travis, on 4/30.
An AUDUBON'S ORIOLE was photographed visiting a feeder at a private
residence in West Austin, Travis, on 5/2. The bird has been seen off and on
each day this week. This appears to be a 1st county record.
-Continuing birds from previous weeks-
A GREAT KISKADEE continues at Berry Springs Park, Williamson, last reported
on 4/25. Another Kiskadee continues at a private residence in Caldwell, on
4/29.
A HUTTON'S VIREO continues at Warbler Woods, Guadalupe, on 5/3.
A female PYRRHULOXIA continues on Earhardt Rd, Bastrop, on 5/1.
A BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK continues at Warbler Woods, Guadalupe, on 4/30.
