Send interesting sightings- complete with species name, LOCATION, and contact information- to Kenny Anderson at kennya290@xxxxxxxxx -Rarities Found This Week- A female Black-throated Gray Warbler was reported from a gated community in northwest Austin, very difficult bird in the circle. 8/24 Travis County A Black Phoebe was described at a Barton Hills home in south Austin on 8/17 in Travis county. A nice document photograph was received of the Piping Plover at Stillhouse Hollow WMA on 8/22. Also seen were Black-bellied Plover (photo) and Peregrine Falcon. (Bell County) A strange occurrence of Burrowing Owl, photographed in a parking garage near the Capitol Building on 8/23, is quite unseasonal and an odd location. An immature Reddish Egret has been photographed several time at Bob Wentz Park on Lake Travis in Travis County 8/23,24, 25,27. Two Laughing Gulls were heard and seen overhead in Webberville on 8/27 (Travis). Temple Lake Park in Bell County hosted an alternate plumage Black-bellied Plover on 8/23,25. Two Snowy Plovers were observed on 8/25 (1 on 8/26) at Temple Lake Park. 1 Snowy Plover was seen on the Cowhouse arm of Belton Lake on 8/25. Bob Wentz Park on Lake Travis had a Snowy Plover on 8/27. A possible Great Kiskadee was from 42nd and Avenue G in Austin on 8/27 was of interest. Kiskadees were around the circle much more frequently in 2012 and seemed to have had a retreat in 2013. Any future sightings reported would be appreciated. An early House Wren and a Blackburnian Warbler were nice yard birds in Bastrop County on 8/26,27 and 8/27 respectively. Northern harrier was reported from Devine Lake in Williamson County on 8/26 and a female/immature Northern harrier was seen near Elgin in Bastrop County on 8/27. Reports for the Austin area RBA cover a 60 mile radius, centered from the Capitol in downtown Austin. Bird sightings mentioned here have been filtered and scrutinized by the compiler and are believed to be genuine. When documentation or photographs were provided that is mentioned, along with the other information about the bird(s) being seen.
