El Observatorio Nacional empezó en el Santa Lucia, luego fue a la Quinta
Normal,
de alli a El Bosque (actual base aerea) ... y desde alli a Cerro Calan.
La historia hace ver que O´Higgins donó parte de su herencia (desde Peru),
entre otros objetivos, para
que se construyese un observatorio astronomico, lo cual nunca se cumplió
por parte de los gobiernos
de chilito, ...peeeeero! vino una mision del Observatorio Naval de USA a
observar Marte y Venus en 1847 o 48
e instalaron el obs. en el Santa Lucia, coincidentemente con lo que queria
don Bernardo.
Originalmente querian hacer sus observaciones desde la zona de Puerto
Montt, pero las nubes los corrieron hacia
el Norte y desde Valparaiso se fueron a Santiago, donde encontraron
mejores cielos para observar.
La historia lo cuenta.

Interesante información histórica, le eché un vistazo a la página, tiene
muy buenas fotos de la época, (se ven algunos vehículos ingleses muy
bonitos), pero no se define de qué lugar de santiago son , me parece que
deben ser lo que hoy es el sectpr de Paul Harris en Las Condes.
