I've had 2-27" Phillips TV's that had a bad connection on a 1600v
capacitor in the horizontal section that burned a hole in the circuit
board. One did not cause a fire, the other one did. Apparently there
was a fair amount of dust inside the TV when the hole started to burn,
the dust caught on fire and flames started to come out the back of the
set, almost catching some nearby drapes on fire. I believe the woman
had the presence of mind to turn off the TV and unplug it. Customer's
husband was so upset when he got home (he had just had the set repaired
somewhere else for other problems) that he threw the large console TV
out the front door of his townhouse and down the stairs. I was able to
repair the bad connection, but not the picture tube mounts that he had
broken in throwing it down the stairs. A bit off topic here, but true.

NOPE!!!
TVs get blamed for a lot of fires, but I have yet to see any evidence,
in 46
years. They used to get blamed for the cats hair falling out!!
If a picture tube did implode, it still wouldn't start a fire. WHAT a
bunch
of CRAP.
