Actually, I have heard from other dealers that the Sony LCD sets are pretty
reliable. Some have had startup problems, but to say that they are all
breaking down may be overstating the problem.

The newest models look very good, but still cannot compete with the best CRT
based sets in terms of pix quality, IMO. The Sony products typically look
good on analog signals if the source is clean but look pretty bad with a
noisy source. But then that is the case with most of the new digital
processing.

My concern with the LCD, DLP, LCOS, PDPs, etc., in general, is the trend to
board level service and the cost of the light engines. Many more failures
will be catastrphic and end up as no fixes. Lots of consumers are in for
big surprises in terms of cost of even minor repairs on these sets if they
don't have extended warranties. CRT based products still offer the best
performance in most ways, are serviceable at more reasonable cost, and are
dirt cheap by comparison.
