Greetings:

Before we were a TCE ASC we used a ECG123ap without any recalls on that
repair for TP15 that I am aware of. Must have done hundreds. I felt like at
the time why use the original, it is failing worldwide by the Millions. I
use to laugh and still get a chuckle listening to all this about using the
original. Hello, it is the design. Now, I go along with this on H.O.T's and
other brands with different circuits, especially Mitsubishi's, you better
use originals, but this circuit..... Until I see a worldwide study that
proves which of all these transistors hold up the longest, I can not believe
any one is better for TP15! If you play the set long enough for longer
periods of time, they will all fail eventually. Of course once you are a
ASC... we all know that you always buy original Manufacturer replacement
parts...Right?

Dead - FIXED

TP15 was a goof by the guys who designed this set. Normal operating temp
of the original trans in these is around 85 deg C. At about 100 C most
transistors have reached the point of thermal runaway. The RCA
replacement in my opinion also runs too hot. Use something with a higher
current rating than original or install one of the small heat sinks made
for T16 case. This was just a case of trying to save too many pennies
when the set was built. Any NPN with proper voltage and about 1 amp I
rating will work, nothing fancy here just working at DC.
