I will get the proper remote, when a commercial comes on it will show the
picture most of the time, then goes to blacked out area when show starts.
"As you can tell I am not very familiar with caption and text modes". I get
27 which shows the guide for our local cable network and also channel 6 a
guide station also. I do another channel or so, all others get blacked out
with a large black square over the picture..
